The choice of your wig for an up-style is an important one, as you’ll need to have a wig that has enough length to be put up into an up-do.  With human hair, you may like to curl the wig to ensure a great end result.  Equally if you’re working with a synthetic wig, the styles that have a curl already are the ideal choice.

TIP NUMBER ONE - CREATING THE PONYTAIL

Shape your hand into a claw shape and then use your hand as a comb through your wig to bring the secting into a ponytail.

This is a  HUGE tip for upstylig a wig.  Easiest way to start an up-style on a wig is with  a ponytail.  It can be a low down full ponytail or a little ponytail at the crown for a pretty cascading result.

Whichever ponytail placement you’re after,  ALWAYS form a claw shape with your hand and comb the hair back onto the ponytail.

This will avoid the hair being too tight as you create the ponytail, instead it will create a softer, more flattering result for your ponytail and start to the up style

Always loosen the sides.

TIP NUMBER TWO - USE TWISTS

For the ultimate up-do on a wig, simply take sections of hair, starting at the front hair line and gently twist them towards the back of the wig.  Like shown here in the picture.  Keep it in a shape that falls nicely at the front for the first section.

Once you’ve secured this twisted section over the ponytail elastic, take the next section and twist this up into the ponytail. Simply repeat until all the hair is up

Remember to very gently pull out a few side pieces to soften the overall look.  The secret is to keep everything as relaxed as possible – not tight at all.

TIP NUMBER THREE - PULL THE HAIR STYLE DOWN AT THE BACK

while Our lead stylist always recommends taking the time to pull the wig styling down at the back while you are styling.   This will make sure the style isn’t pulling up and showing that it’s a wig.

You can do this by gently pulling down on the wig at the back areas.  This is one of the reasons we recommend doing sections and twisting the style into place.  It is easier to ensure that there is nothing severe at the base of the wig and your style is covering any tell tale ‘wig’ giveaways.

The type of clips you can use really well in up-styling wigs are butterfly clips, bobby pins and fringe pins work well too.  For a quick easy upstyle the hair claw clips are awesome.
